The Evils of Meat – The Willits News
It was estimated that 1 in 80 people developed cancer in 1900; In 1950, it was 1 in 20; in 1975, 1 in 3. Today it is estimated 1 in 2 people will be stricken with the disease in their lifetime. That means if it isn’t you, one of your loved ones will have the disease.
Hartford University conducted studies showing regular meat consumption raises the risk of colon cancer by 300%. According to a report in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Harvard researchers also found intake of animal fat, especially red meat and high-fat dairy products during premenopausal years is associated with an increased risk of breast cancers.
The University of Ottawa found cheese and deli meats contribute to the development of testicular cancer, the most common cancer in men aged 20-45. The University of Utah found new data strengthening past findings that carcinogens from meat when cooked are responsible for raising rectal cancer risk.
Showing another correlation between meat intake and cancer risk, researchers at Yale University School of Medicine found new studies linking meat to cancer. Those consuming the most animal protein had higher rates of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Three hundred cases of human mad cow disease (CJD) are reported every year in America, and there is no mandatory reporting of CJD.
Since 1982, the National Research Council linked diet particularly the intake of foods such as beef to cancer risk. Ron Allison M.D., a radiation oncologist and cancer researcher in Greenville, North Carolina, said, “Every physician who treats cancer knows that a meat-based diet is linked to higher cancer risk.” It also is proven that diabetes is merely a lifestyle disease (like cancer) due to a meat-based diet. The list condemning meat is endless, but never advertised.
I worked in the media for 11 years. I interviewed Hippocrates Institute, which has thousands of people on record who’ve cured themselves of cancer, aids, diabetes, etc. through a vegan/vegetarian diet. I was told to announce genuine cures for disease was a “conflict of interest,” “my job was to be an entertainer, and to lie.”
Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the Physicians committee for Responsible Medicine also speaks out against meat due to risk of disease, and encourages vegetarianism in the treatment of disease.
It is unacceptable that there is even talk of bringing a slaughterhouse to our town. It is not beautiful. It is a means of spreading disease, fear and hate.
